At the annual "Staff Appreciation Night" of the 1,500 member Santa Clara County Dental Society, Morgan Hill's Don Nguyen DDS and Jon Hatakeyama DDS and their dental staff received an "unprecedented" honor when they were awarded the "Staff of the Year;" usually given to a single staff member of the year.

Hatakeyama said the Society could not decide which of the nominees from his office should be given the award "because of their value to our practice," so the entire office was nominated.

"Don and I could not deliver the outstanding treatment and maintain our great patient relationships without their contribution ... much like an all-star running back could not make the yardage without the team blocking and making holes in the line for them to run though," Hatakeyama said at the Wednesday night meeting at Villa Ragusa in Campbell.

This is the first time the Dental Society has honored an entire staff at its annual meeting. The Santa Clara chapter is part of the California Dental Association, which is an affiliate of the American Dental Association.

Teacher's Aid Coalition (TAC), a non-profit group founded in 1999 by Dr. Jon Hatakeyama and Bob Davis, is run by volunteers with educational and professional backgrounds. TAC is not affiliated with MHUSD. Our focus is to meet the needs of children in Morgan Hill schools by filling the supply gap left by diminishing classroom budgets. Supplies donated to TAC go directly into teachers' classrooms.

On January 30th, 2011 Dr. Don Nguyen DDS was on KBAY Radio with Sam Van Zandt promoting the TAC organization and fundraising event at the February 12th Chocolate & Wine For Valentine at the Granary in Morgan Hill.  Click HERE to read the Morgan Hill Times article about this event.
